Deep and bright ruby red.
Aromas of ripe red cherry, dark plum and kirsch are blended by sexy wood smoke, eucalyptus and bay leaf.
Silky and quite lush, with considerable sweetness and creaminess in its ripe and sweet flavors of cassis, blackberry jam and ripe black plum.
Finishes with fine tannins and persistent notes of minerals, herbs, dried flowers and smoke. It has a lovely balance and good length on the rich, even, creamy-ripe finish that displays a lingering menthol note.
The 2000 harvest was hot, especially in August, with some varieties, such as merlot, reaching high sugar levels before reaching full polyphenolic maturity.
However, the combination of a cooler microclimate and ancient Cabernet vines has allowed Tenuta San Guido to produce better wine than many on the Tuscan coast this year.
