Dr. Loosen Red Slate Riesling is a white wine from the Mosel region of Germany, known for producing high-quality Rieslings.
The wine typically displays characteristics such as fresh fruit flavors, balanced acidity and mineral notes, often reflecting the terroir of the slate soils from which the grapes are grown.
Riesling from this region can range from dry to sweet, so it's essential to check the specific style of this vintage for more details on the sweetness and flavor profile. It's a great choice to accompany seafood, poultry or spicy dishes.
THE WINE
Dr. Loosen
This wine is produced exclusively with grapes from the estate's vineyards, located on red slate soils in the villages of Ürzig, Erden, Lösnich and Kinheim.
Red slate, less common than blue slate, is found mainly in the vineyards of Ürzig, Erden and Kinheim. The iron-rich red slate soil produces wines with a rich, spicy and complex aroma and an intense mineral taste. The stony slate soil reflects sunlight to the grapes during the day and, at the same time, stores much of the heat.
The vines are cultivated specifically for the production of dry wine. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in 3,000-liter neutral oak barrels. Prolonged contact with the lees allows the wine to develop a harmonious natural balance and greater complexity.
